Mission and Goals

The mission of the Chris Hooyman Outdoor Education Fund is to honor Chris's love of life and his spirit of adventure by extending learning opportunities through wilderness experiences and outdoor leadership education to youth who otherwise might be unable to participate.

Goals:

To identify and select economically disadvantaged youth who are highly motivated to learn through experiential outdoor education.  All applicants are required to complete written forms; the Hooyman family is involved in the selection of finalists.

  • To provide scholarships for economically disadvantaged youth to participate in outdoor education programs where the emphasis is on leadership development.
  • To allocate such support in a manner consistent with Chris’s values and goals.
  • To extend Chris’s infectious enthusiasm for and love of the outdoors to those who never knew him.

Fiscal Administration:

The Chris Hooyman Outdoor Education Fund is administered through the non-profit Seattle Foundation, a section 501(c)3 charitable organization.  The Fund is permanent, with the interest earned annually used to support outdoor education opportunities.  Contributions raised by the memorial climbs will be added to the Chris Hooyman Outdoor Education Fund.  The Seattle Foundation will disburse grants from the Fund as recommended by Nancy Hooyman, the CHOEF Fund Advisor, or as community needs dictate.

All gifts are tax deductible, and should be written out to The Seattle Foundation and with CHOEF written in the subject line.  Please mail to: The Seattle Foundation, 1200 Fifth Ave, Suite 1300, Seattle, WA 98101.

Support of the Chris Hooyman Outdoor Education Fund is greatly appreciated as a way to extend Chris’s spirited and joyful influence to youth.
